Microbial Identifications

The Biolog® Microbial Identification System is used to identify and characterize unknown aerobic bacteria using phenotypic technology that provides species-level identification based on the bacteria’s reaction to a variety of carbon sources. The results of these reactions produce a “metabolic fingerprint” that is compared to  library of previously identified organisms.  Uses include identification of organisms isolated from environmental monitoring of facilities, from bioburden analysis and from sterility testing.
